Specialized AI for Doctors, Lawyers, Architects— and You
Assem Hijazi – Experience, Knowledge & Ideas
Many of us today are using ChatGPT or similar tools every day.
You hear about new AI chatbots like DeepSeek coming out, and you see all these articles saying "Bye Bye ChatGPT" and "The New AI is Here!" — but honestly, most of these writers don’t really understand what’s going on behind the scenes.
Today, people from every profession — doctors, lawyers, architects, business owners — are using ChatGPT, CoPilot, or other similar AI tools for all kinds of work.
A lot of people believe, "This is AI. This is the future. This is what I need to use for my profession."
But here's the thing: we urgently need to build more awareness about where AI is truly heading — and why just using a general AI tool might not be the best for your work.
Most of the new AI chatbots (or to put it simply — the AI chatting tools or apps) are all running on generic knowledge.
They use what we can think of as a digital brain — technically called an LLM (Large Language Model).
As a normal user, you don't really need to know how LLMs work, but what you DO need to know is this:
There’s a big difference between general-purpose AI tools and AI tools built specifically for your profession.
Yes, that's right.
If you're a doctor, a lawyer, an architect — there are dedicated AI chatting apps being developed just for you.
You might not have heard about them yet, but they are already starting to change the game.
I actually wrote an article before about the future of AI apps (you can check it out here) — where I talked a little more technical about why domain-specific AI is the true future.
In simple words:
If you are using a bunch of apps today in your profession, AI is going to be part of them whether you like it or not.
But imagine if you had something like ChatGPT or DeepSeek — built specifically for your profession?
The good news is: yes, it's starting to happen.
In this article, we’ll go through this important trend — and I hope it helps raise real awareness for everyone.
One important point though: since it’s still a new trend, you might not find the perfect AI chat app for your profession just yet — or it might still be learning the deep knowledge of your field.
So you need to keep searching, stay updated, and monitor the AI industry for new developments related to your work.
Why General AI Isn’t Enough for Your Profession
Today, most people are using AI tools like ChatGPT, DeepSeek, or CoPilot for all kinds of things — writing reports, brainstorming ideas, answering questions, even helping with professional work.
And sure, these tools are amazing. They can save time, inspire creativity, and help with everyday tasks.
But here's the catch:
General-purpose AI tools are trained to know a little bit about everything — not everything about something.
That means when you ask ChatGPT for medical advice, legal insights, or complex architecture designs, it's answering based on general knowledge, not deep, professional expertise.
It’s like asking a really smart friend who has read a lot about every topic — but isn’t actually a doctor, a lawyer, or an architect.
Example:
If you’re a doctor and you ask ChatGPT about a rare disease, it might give you a decent answer — but it could also miss small, important details that a medical-specialized AI would catch.
In healthcare, law, finance, construction — even small mistakes can lead to big problems.
That's why domain-specific AI is rising so fast.
It’s not about just having an AI that can "talk nicely" — it's about having an AI that truly understands your profession.
Summary:
General AI = Good for general ideas and quick help.
Specialized AI = Built to understand your field deeply, like a real assistant trained specifically for your profession.

What Is Domain-Specific AI?
Alright, now let’s get to the heart of it:
What exactly do we mean by domain-specific AI?
In simple words:
Domain-specific AI is an AI that’s trained very deeply to understand one field — your field.
Instead of trying to know "a little bit about everything" like general AI tools do, domain-specific AI focuses on knowing a lot about one thing.
It’s like the difference between a general doctor and a top heart surgeon.
Both are smart — but one is trained specifically for your heart.
Examples:
A Medical AI that knows clinical guidelines, real case studies, rare diseases, and the latest research papers.
A Legal AI that understands court rulings, laws, contracts, and can even draft documents like a real legal assistant.
An Architecture AI that can create building layouts based on building codes, safety regulations, and architectural best practices.
These specialized AIs are built by feeding them professional, domain-specific data — like medical textbooks, research papers, legal documents, architectural plans — instead of random internet knowledge.
They’re fine-tuned and trained to talk, reason, and think like someone who has deep experience in your profession.
In brief :
Domain-Specific AI = AI built specifically for your world.
It knows your field’s language, your field’s challenges, and your field’s standards — much better than general AI ever could.

How Domain-Specific AI is Built (and How You Can Find It)
Now that you know what domain-specific AI is, you might be wondering:
How are these specialized AI chatbots even made?
And where can you find them?
Good questions — and the answers are actually simpler than you think.
First, how do they build a domain-specific AI?
There are a few ways that companies or teams create specialized AI chatbots or assistant apps:
1. Building on top of existing LLMs (like OpenAI, DeepSeek, Claude, etc.)
They take a big, general model like ChatGPT (OpenAI) or DeepSeek,
Then they "fine-tune" it — meaning they retrain or adjust it using tons of professional, specialized data (like medical textbooks, legal documents, or engineering manuals).
Result: It still has the power of the big model but becomes smarter for a specific profession.
2. Using open-source LLMs (like LLaMA, Mistral, etc.)
Some developers prefer to start with free, open-source models.
They customize and fine-tune them heavily with specialized data.
This way, they have more control and avoid paying for big commercial platforms.
3. Building a brand-new LLM from scratch (very rare)
Some big companies (with millions of dollars) create totally new models.
They collect professional data, design their own architecture, and train the AI from zero.
But this is very rare because it’s expensive, slow, and complex.
Second, how do you find domain-specific AI for your profession?
Right now, if you’re a doctor, lawyer, architect, or engineer, and you want to use a domain-specific AI chatbot, you mainly have to look at the first two types of AI apps we talked about before:
Type 1: Specialized AI Chatbot Apps
(Example: MedPaLM for healthcare, BloombergGPT for finance)
Type 2: Specialized AI Assistant Tools
(Example: Apps like DeepCura, Medical Chat, or tools inside your hospital or law firm’s software)
These apps are focused AI tools that behave like chatbots but with real knowledge in your domain.
They’re not general conversation bots — they are trained to help you with your real work.
In brief
Specialized AI for professions usually starts by adapting an existing powerful LLM —
either from OpenAI, or from open-source projects —
and then retraining it to understand your profession deeply.
You don’t need to know the full technical story behind each app you use,
but you do need to know that some AI apps are built specifically to help your profession —
and they will always perform better for your work than general chatbots like ChatGPT.

Real Examples of Specialized AI for Doctors
When we talk about domain-specific AI, healthcare is one of the first fields where things are moving fast.
There are already several AI tools and apps being built specifically for doctors and healthcare professionals — not just for basic chatting, but for real clinical help, like symptom checking, diagnosis support, safe medication prescribing, patient communication, and even live consultations.
These examples below show the kind of real AI work being done:
Some tools act like AI co-doctors suggesting diagnoses.
Some are AI prescription assistants, checking drug safety.
Some help summarize patient conversations or guide consultations.
This list might not cover everything available today — the healthcare AI industry is growing every month —
but these are real examples already live and helping doctors in clinics and hospitals.
