Customized Windows and apps for each user

Assem Hijazi – Experience, Knowledge & Ideas

In my earlier articles, I explored the future of AI-powered operating systems and how we’re moving toward personalized computing — starting with the AI Windows concept and how LLM-driven ALM apps will reshape user experiences. (Catch up here if you haven’t yet: AI Windows Vision and Dedicated Features for Every User).

Now, let’s take this vision further.

Imagine an operating system that doesn't just respond to your commands, but actually learns from you — fixing errors as they happen, tailoring its features to your habits, your needs, and even your personality. That’s not a distant future. That’s where AI Windows is headed — powered by a Digital Brain that evolves per user.

We're talking about custom Windows — a personalized OS environment built uniquely for each user. It won’t stop at bug fixes. This digital brain can propose entirely new features tailored to your behavior, suggest automation, collaborate with developers globally, and even coordinate with you (and your budget) to bring those ideas to life.

Now think bigger: apply this idea at the enterprise level — where every user inside a company could have their own tailored workspace, with apps and tools adjusting intelligently to their role, habits, and responsibilities.

Even more mind-blowing? Apps will start collaborating with the OS to customize themselves per user — making “one-size-fits-all” software a thing of the past.

In this article, I’ll continue the vision of the next generation of Windows, apps, and hardware — all driven by The Digital Human System. We’ll explore how true human-centric computing can become a reality through Customized Windows and Apps for Every User.

Digital Brain for Each App — How It Works and Why It Matters

We’ve already talked about how Windows of the future will be powered by a Digital Brain, embedded directly into the AI chip, with the OS itself running inside that chip. If you haven’t read it yet, check out the full vision here:
👉 AI Windows Vision – The Next Generation of Microsoft OS

Now let’s dive into the next big idea:

🧠 Each App Will Also Have Its Own Digital Brain

1. Two AI Layers in Windows

We said that Windows will include two main AI layers:

🧠 System AI – runs the OS, fixes errors, handles performance and hardware control.

🗣️ Human-AI – talks to you, the user, understands what you want, and tailors the experience.

But a question comes up…

🤔 How will Windows talk to the apps?

That brings us to the next level.

2. The Future Apps Need AI Too — Not Just to Talk to Humans

Right now, most apps that use AI are built to talk to the user — using LLMs or AI agents to respond to questions or automate tasks.

But in the AI Windows era, that’s only half of the story.

Each app will need a second AI layer — not just for the user —
But to talk to the operating system directly.

3. Enter the OS AI Agent: The Hidden Genius Inside Every App

This is what I call the OS AI Agent — the digital brain inside each app that will:

Understand the app’s internal state

Communicate with the OS Digital Brain

Solve problems without needing APIs

Even co-create new features based on how you use the app

Let that sink in for a moment…

Instead of calling a fixed API, the app’s AI talks directly to the Windows Digital Brain, like two minds working together.

4. We Talked About This in the AI Agent Article Too

If this sounds familiar, it should be. I explored this shift in my article:
👉 The Future of AI Agents – Neural OS Will Replace Them All

There, I described how the AI agent will no longer need to call the cloud — it will instead call the AI chip inside the OS.

That same logic now applies inside every app.

5. Why This Changes Everything – No More APIs

Here’s the key shift:

📉 APIs are no longer needed.
📈 We replace them with AI-to-AI conversations between app and OS.

Just imagine:

An app detects a performance issue → it asks the OS for more memory.

The OS detects a security concern → it asks the app to isolate a process.

You ask the app to do something new → the OS and app build the feature together.

6. Together, They Customize Features Per User

And here’s the magic:

When both the OS and the app have their own digital brains, they can collaborate to build new features just for you.

No cloud needed

No update cycle

Just pure AI-to-AI adaptation

This is the true human-centric era of computing.

The Digital Human System – The Brain Behind It All

You might have noticed by now — everything I’ve written about so far connects like puzzle pieces:

AI Windows isn’t just a new OS vision

Digital Brains for Apps aren’t random ideas

Customized Features per User isn’t just a wish

Removing APIs, Embedding the OS in the Chip, Human-Centric Design — it’s all part of a much bigger picture

That picture is what I call the Digital Human System.

1. This Isn’t Just a System — It’s a Whole Architecture

The Digital Human System is not just a tool, a feature, or a model.
It’s a complete AI-driven architecture and framework that I’ve been building and evolving.

It’s the foundation that powers all these ideas —
and it’s designed to reshape everything in the digital world:
🧠 Operating systems,
📱 Apps,
🧩 Devices,
🔐 Digital identities,
🌍 Even how AI interacts with you, the human.

2. All My Articles Are Inspired by This Vision

You’ll see it across everything I publish — even if I don’t always call it out directly.

When I talk about Windows being embedded in an AI chip,

Or apps talking to OS via AI agents,

Or building personalized features without APIs —

You’re seeing the Digital Human System in action.

3. We’re Just Using Windows as a Case Study

In this article series, Windows is simply one example to help explain this vision.
But the ideas apply far beyond:

This is not just about Microsoft.

It’s not even just about OS vs. apps.

It’s about how the entire digital world will evolve when AI becomes deeply embedded in every layer — from hardware to software to human interaction.

4. A Teaser: The Apps-Chain Model – Coming Soon

Before we wrap up, let me leave you with a hint of what’s next.

Soon, I’ll introduce a new concept from the Digital Human System:

The Apps-Chain Model
A future framework where apps with their own digital brains are linked together,
not just running in isolation — but as part of a chain of intelligent modules working in harmony.

This model will rethink how we install, run, and interconnect apps — and how the OS helps orchestrate all of it through AI.

Stay tuned — this is where it gets even more exciting.

What Does It Really Mean to Have Customized Features per User?

Let’s go beyond the basics.

When we say “customized features for each user,” we don’t just mean adding a couple of extra buttons or shortcuts.

We’re talking about apps and systems that reshape themselves entirely around YOU.

1. Your Apps Will Morph Based on You

Imagine opening Excel — but instead of the standard menu, it only shows:

The functions you actually use

The layout you prefer

And maybe, as you work, the app even talks to you:

"Need a pivot table again? I’ve got it ready. Want to visualize this as a chart like you did last week?"

It’s not science fiction — it’s the natural evolution of AI-powered software.

And yes, I’ve already laid the foundation for this kind of thinking in my article:
👉 The Four Types of LLM-Driven Apps

These four types will revolutionize how apps behave, how they perform, and how they feel — because they’ll be designed for the user, by name.

2. Now Think Beyond the Individual

What if…

A family uses one app — and it customizes itself differently for each family member?

Or a small business uses a tool — and it adapts to their industry, size, and team workflow?

Or a global enterprise runs the same software — but each employee sees a version tailored to their department, role, and work habits?

Now take it one step further:

You switch between “professional mode” and “home mode” — and your OS, your apps, and even your files shift with you.

The entire digital experience bends around your context.

3. The Future Is Layered Personalization — for People, Families, Teams, and Enterprises

It’s not just per user anymore.
It’s per use-case. Per environment. Per identity.

You as a parent

You as a manager

You as a gamer

You as a traveler

You as part of your company

The system adapts and switches modes dynamically — making every app feel like it was made just for you.

4. And That’s Just the Beginning

I’ll explore this concept deeper in future articles, including new frameworks like:

🔄 Context Switching OS Design

🔗 Apps-Chain Collaboration

🧠 Multi-Identity Personalization Models

But for now, I’ll leave you with this:

Imagine a world where the software no longer looks the same for everyone.
It’s not just “your copy” — it’s your living, evolving digital partner.

And the imagination?
I’ll leave that up to you.
